Silvia Portugal

Silvia Portugal holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Coimbra. She is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC), and a researcher at the Centro de Estudos Sociais (CES) in the Núcleo de Estudos sobre Políticas Sociais, Trabalho e Desigualdades (POSTRADE). Her research work has used network theory to discuss the relationships between formative systems and well-being production information. In this area, Silvia has researched the importance of family in the Portuguese social protection system, with special emphasis on the role of women. Her most recent research and research interests are centered on the themes of disability and mental health. She has edited Cidadania, Políticas Públicas e Redes Sociais (IUC, 2011); Doença Mental, Instituições e Famílias. Os desafios da deinstitucionalização em Portugal, with Pedro Hespanha et al. (Almedina, 2012), and Famílias e Redes Sociais. Ligações Fortes na Produção de Bem-estar (Almedina, 2014).
