Margarita Rodriguez-Ibañez holds a PhD from the Faculty of Information Sciences of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), with a dissertation entitled “How the Network has changed Art.” Since then she has researched social, artistic and cultural processes in which collaboration represents the main element. She is a founding member and President of the non-profit association DEMETRA, whose objective is to promote the role of communication in the construction of culture and democracy, as well as to design resources to empower citizens, especially those referring to culture and democracy of which the VotAndo project forms part (www.votAndo.es). She is also a member of the International Observatory of Democratic Participation, where she has participated as an international jury in the “Best Practice in Citizen Participation” award of local governments, during the 2014, 2015 and 2018 editions. She has collaborated with Isidro Moreno in the research group Museum I+D+C: Laboratorio de Cultura Digital y Museografía Hipermedia (UCM), participating in the projects “Augmented Knowledge and Accessibility: the Museographic representation of Complex Cultural Contents” and “Social Multimedia Glossary.” She has been a guest lecturer in the Master in Audiovisual Communication for the Digital Age (UCM) in 2014 and 2015, and was an Associate Lecturer at the University of Nebrija from 2006 to 2011.
